— Referral, management and treatment of HIV and Co-infections (WP7)

2. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE
Referral and treatment systems:
To augment by mid 2012 the country-specific evidence on treatment and care of HIV and co-infections and to enhance interlinks in referral systems for diagnostic, treatment and care of STIs, HIV/AIDS and co-infections.
3. DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
The work starts with a stocktaking of country-specific medical conditions in HIV and co-infections’ diagnostic and treatment is necessary. Contacts will be build with institutions and physicians involved in treating HIV/AIDS. Common development of education programs with basic and special knowledge in HIV and co-infections shall be worked out. Implementation of recurrent workshops for HIV-treatment professionals and two medical expert on-site visits to German treatment settings (Potsdam and Rostock) will be organized.
Individual STIs/HIV case management and referral and screening of HIV patients for TB, Hepatitis B and C will be piloted. Development of country-specific guidelines in managing HIV/HBV- and HIV/HCV co-infection is planned. Diagnostic and clinical pathways for all HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and STIs will be worked out and presented at concluding expert workshop.
